In general, a school year is split down into three terms and over the full school year there are six holiday periods.

Scotland

Autumn Term

Autumn term in Scotland commences at the end of August, In England and Wales kids return in early September.

In Autumn half term, usually the last weeks of October there is another 1 week holiday, then towards the end of the year, a two week holidays for the Christmas holidays.

Spring Term

After returning for the New Year, Spring half term begins for England and Wales in February, In Scotland there is no half term holidays in that month.

Spring term revolves around Easter, which in turn revolves around the Spring Equinox, as the Easter holidays is always starts upon the first full moon after the Equinox.

Easter holidays are usually for two weeks, and normally occur around Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Summer Term

After Easter the summer term commences, there is a half term usually around the May bank holiday at the end of May and is for one week.

For Scotland , Summer holidays begin at the end of June, so there is no Summer half term in Scotland, as there holidays last about seven weeks.

For England and Wales, the long Summer holidays start mid July and last around six weeks.
