It offers something unique, with its contemporary style and high quality finish, along with spacious gardens with stunning views towards the ocean from its elevated location.The hotel has been lovingly designed and created by Austrian husband and wife team, Luis and Nina, who have now made The Gambia their home.
Following a Gambian holiday in 2009, Luis and Nina decided to exchange their careers in publishing back home in Austria to run a small but good quality hotel in the sun.
After much searching, they purchased the cliff top piece of land in Brufut in 2010, and started work on the design of Leo’s Hotel - named after their lucky mascot lion! They have incorporated environmentally-friendly systems where possible such as photo-voltaic cells and solar power for hot water, (it is the first hotel in The Gambia to use a photo-voltaic system, which feeds back into the national grid, NAWEC), and local craftsmen were employed to build the good quality furniture found throughout the property.
They will personally arrange your transfer to and from Banjul airport in air-conditioned vehicles.The rooms are all located on the first floor and are spacious, bright and modern, offering a high degree of comfort with all amenities at your fingertips.
The five standard suites all face the ocean in the distance, with views over the swimming pool and gardens beyond.
There is also a larger suite available with a very spacious living room with sofa bed and bathroom leading from it, along with a separate double bedroom and balcony running the length of the suite, however this does not overlook the main gardens.
You will find sunbeds in tranquil spots around the gardens or by the impressive swimming pool, complete with Jacuzzi corner, and perfect for a refreshing dip – with so few guests in the hotel you will easily be able to find a peaceful spot to relax with a drink and a good book.
The idyllic, deserted beach can be reached via approximately 40 shallow wooden steps, followed by a gentle two minute stroll along sandy tracks.
When it comes to dining, Leo’s Restaurant has gained a reputation for providing good food and is becoming popular with local residents (see sample menu under Facilities and Extras), plus half board guests are able to dine a la carte (supplements apply for tiger prawns and lobster).
Start the day with a continental breakfast along with hot dishes cooked to order, and finish with a Julbrew or two whilst watching the sun set.
If you are looking for a change of scene, Kololi is only a 10-minute taxi ride away.With only six suites, a child-free policy, and its quiet location in Brufut, Leo’s is ideal for a romantic break or for those seeking peace and tranquillity away from the busier tourist resorts.
