The Hotel Continental is set just behind the cliff edge in the centre of Sorrento, overlooking the Bay of Naples and, in the distance, the brooding slopes of Mount Vesuvius.The hotel really makes the most of the views.
In the lobby – where marble floors and chandeliers create a classically Italian feel – floor-to-ceiling windows open up views of Mount Vesuvius.
Leading the way in terms of facilities here is the large swimming pool.
It’s a bit of a suntrap and comes complete with a sun terrace, deckchairs and parasols.
There’s also a pool snack bar where you can grab a bite to eat during the day.
